Traditions:
2012 marks the 28th annual running of the bicycle event now known as the ULCER (Utah Lake Century Epic Ride). Bonneville Bicycle Touring Club members wanted to participate in the League of American Wheelmen’s National Century Month, held in September. They started at the Provo Boat Harbor and went clockwise around Utah Lake, one hundred miles and not a lot of turns. The one and only rest stop was on the back of the lake. It served punch and cookies.
As the area grew, different routes were tried. Several years the old Saratoga Springs “resort” served as the starting point. Those who participated back then will remember the goat head thorn attacks. Lehi High School and American Fork High were also used as starting points. Now Thanksgiving Point is the start with rest stops dotting the route.
Come begin or continue a tradition by riding this year’s ULCER on August 6, 2011.
