ULCER COURSE UPDATE

Road Construction affects the outbound course this year – Leaving Lehi we take part of the oldest ULCER route on record to bypass massive work on MillPond road. This detour actually has more sweeping turns that should improve the flow of the route .

Two other course changes are in the works, where a short turn early eliminates several sharp turns and two tight round-abouts that followed on last year’s course. Milled road surfaces (ala Paris Roubaix) forced a look at other options here and once again, this should allow for a smoother transition to open roads.

Pending local police department approvals – the tire killer tracks have been eliminated south of Springville at mile 38 – a re-route of the course at that point eliminates the crossings at Mapleton and the really bad crossing west of Spanish Fork

Rest Stops — the mid level route is dropping closer to 60 miles with a relocation of the 60 mile turnaround within the Provo city limits. A short loop to re-direct the 60 mile riders and that course is re-traced back to the start/finish. Lunch for the long course moves up to Lincoln Beach at approximately mile 50, with water stops occurring every 10- 14 miles thereafter for the remainder of the 111 mile course.

Course profile: The Garmin doesn't lie.

There is a total vertical gain of 741 feet by mile 36 at 400 S in Springville. Amazing on a flat fast course. From mile 36 to mile 50 a gain of only 137 vertical additional. The rollers around the lake to Genola Goshen and Elberta add another 800 feet . From mile 72 in Elberta at US 6 northward to Saratoga adds 399 vertical at mile 102 and only another 65 feet to the finish.
